I was born in Crayford, Kent (GB) but grew up in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland (Canton Ticino). I was brought up speaking three languages at home: English with my father, Czech with my mother and Italian with my sisters. I am perfectly bilingual in Italian and English and have studied English and Russian literature and linguistics at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.
My biggest passion is travel. I’ve travelled widely in Europe (both Western and Eastern Europe), as well as in Russia, Mexico, Argentina, New Zealand and Japan. After having completed my studies, I lived for eight months in New Zealand, where I taught Italian at the Timaru branch of the Christchurch Polytechnic. After that I spent a school year in Slovakia, teaching English at intermediate / upper intermediate level at the Gymnázium in Žilina. At the same time I gave private tuition in English, Italian and German.
I now work with all my languages as an
interpreter for the Swiss Police (at times for the Public Prosecutor as well) and as a translator, mainly through the Internet.I have a variety of interests, ranging from sports (skiing, swimming, cycling, trekking) to photography and music (not only do I listen to it, but I play it too!), meditation and travel, the last obviously implying an innate love for broad reading and… translations!
